I am working on travel disclosure rules for the Ethics Commission that apply to public officials. I have a potential conflict of interest due to a relationship in a private capacity because my sister meets the definition of a public official as an employee of the legislative branch.
Designated Neutral Reviewer
I declared my conflict to the designated neutral reviewer and requested the neutral reviewer's determination. The neutral reviewer determined the potential conflict of interest is not a disqualifying conflict of interest. The travel disclosure rules equally apply to a broad group of public officials in the regulated community, and I will not derive any personal benefit from my continued work on the rules. The neutral reviewer also did not believe my independence of judgment would be affected by my continued work on the rules.
