Serving on the Cass County Annexation Committee, I feel it inappropriate to be voting on actions at the state board level when I have participated in the discussions and voted on the same actions at the county level. After conferring with the State Board's Assistant Attorney General, I am under no obligation to do so, but feel that it's the right thing to do. My own personal philosophy is that problems are best served at the local level, so I decided to participate at the local discussions and not at the state board discussion, with my position on the given topic clear based on my local vote.
