About Governor Beasley
Governor David Beasley is a former Governor of South Carolina and former Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme, where he led the organization’s global efforts to end conflict, hunger and famine around the world. During his tenure, the World Food Programme provided food assistance to more than 100 million people each year, and in 2022 alone reached approximately 180 million people in more than 120 countries. Under his leadership, the World Food Programme was awarded the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize for its work of ending conflicts and serving vulnerable communities in some of the world’s most difficult places. When he accepted the Peace Prize, he told the world, “Food is the pathway to peace.” Throughout his career, Governor Beasley has been known for bringing people together across political, cultural, and religious lines to respond to human suffering with courage, compassion, and practical action. He has worked alongside world leaders, faith communities, businesses, and humanitarian organizations to address food insecurity, conflict, and poverty around the globe.
